Load an audio track into MooSick and it will play it to you – that is the main bit of functionality this free Philipp Ruppel-developed application has to offer. There are, of course, various other features you can enjoy: create and manage an audio database, web search, increase/decrease playback speed, effects, and so on.

Download an 11MB executable, run it, and then click through the onscreen instructions presented by a setup wizard – these are the steps you must go through to get MooSick up and running on your Windows-powered machine. It is a standard setup procedure that will, in all fairness, take little time and effort.

A list of songs selected for playback takes up the main part of the interface. Above this list there’s a toolbar with buttons for adding new songs, removing existing songs, adding a directory, and more. Below the list you will see the playback controls: play button, volume slider, audio effects, speed slider. If you’ve used a music player before, you should have no problems figuring out the interface.

From a functionality point of view, MooSick offers the following features: load and play songs, manage a database of songs, search function to easily locate a song, web search, streaming, playback speed control, audio filters, metadata extraction, system tray notifications. All this functionality is provided for the great price of free (the application is released under a GNU General Public License).

Go get MooSick if you need a free and easy to use music player.

Pros

Installing MooSick on a Windows-powered machine is a very simple task. You will quickly get accustomed with the interface. Supports multiple audio formats, including MP3 and OGG, offers several filters, helps you manage an audio database, and more. MooSick is a free application.

Cons

None that I could think of.
